A Shield and Refuge Ministries is committed to reaching out, in Christian love and witness, to those trapped in and victimized by Mormon fundamentalism (polygamy).
Our Purpose:
To bring to Mormon fundamentalists the soul-saving and life-changing message of:
- Salvation through Jesus Christ alone
- Doctrine from the Bible alone
- Freedom from the bondage of "Salvation through Plural Marriage"
Our Goal:
To be an instrument of God to bring members of Mormon fundamentalist groups into a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, and to facilitate a smooth and safe exit for anyone desiring to leave a polygamist group.
Our Mission:
We consider Mormon fundamentalists are largely an "unreached people group" in our own country, due to their secrecy and culture of closed communities. We also consider that they are part of the world in which Jesus Christ, in his Great Commision, has called us to go out and minister in His name.
We are dedicated to proclaiming God's will that each woman should have her own husband--exclusively! (I Corinthians 7:2)
What can be done?
A Shield and Refuge Ministries consists of former members of Mormon fundamentalist (polygamist) groups. As such, we understand the life, the needs, and the hearts of Mormon fundamentalists. Just like the rest of the un-evangelized world, they need Jesus too!
Prayer
Much prayer is needed. The message needs to be proclaimed to Mormon fundamentalists that living plural marriage is not what makes one acceptable enough to God for Him to allow them into Heaven.
Provision
We are seeking funds and other resources that will enable us to provide for the physical needs of anyone seeking to leave a Mormon fundamentalist group. We seek to be able to assist them in any way that we legally can--providing for their immediate needs as well as preparing them for integration into mainstream society, for which many are not yet equipped.
We also need resources--both human and material--that will enable us to proactively share the Good News of Jesus with them, disciple them into a maturing relationship with Him, teach them from God's word, and prepare them for a new, abundant life in Christ!
Education
Considering that many of those who have lived the fundamentalist lifestyle have done so very frugally (some even living in abject poverty), we are very concerned, as we know Jesus himself is, for their immediate physical needs.
While they may be hardworking and intelligent people, many have not had the benefit of a basic education that most people in mainstream society enjoy. We seek to provide for the basic educational needs of anyone who expresses a desire to leave a polygamy group.
Yet if we only meet their physical and educational needs, we are dishonoring Jesus and His sacrifice for them. They need to know the Truth of God’s immense love for them, His Grace to them and His FREE gift of salvation available to them! |
